Visiting Spray Lake Sawmills in Cochrane, Alta., you d expect to see a chaotic scene with workers scrambling to churn out more and more two-by-fours and fence posts to take advantage of unprecedented lumber prices. But it s pretty much business as usual. It s steady as she goes, said Ed Kulcsar, the manager of the company s woodlands division, which oversees tree harvesting.
Each year, VETS hosts the VETS Industry Invitational at the Edmonton Garrison Golf and Curling Club. Through this tournament, in the past four years, VETS has raised over $100,000 for Valour Palace, Little Warriors and Habitat for Humanity, while also supporting a recreation facility on the military base north of Edmonton. EDMONTON The Alberta government must pull back its new Forest Act before it becomes law next month, says the grand chief of the province’s northern First Nations.
“We expect the province to suspend the new Forest Act immediately,” Arthur Noskey of Treaty 8 First Nations said Thursday. “We are asking (the government) to pull this back and consult with us.”

The United Conservatives passed the act late last year and it is to come into effect May 1.
