A shortage of rental housing stock across the Border and Northeast is leading to desperation, and fears that some locals will be forced to leave the area in order to have a roof over their head.
With many owners selling rental properties to cash in during the ‘hot’ property market, and city dwellers moving to the regions to work remotely, the rental crisis is being felt across the region.
The issue was highlighted further after Member for Indi Helen Haines expressed her disappointment to Kylie and Kev that the issue wasn’t raised in the Federal Budget. ....

15 Year Old’s Mighty Effort
A jug of raspberry soft drink never tasted so refreshing, as teenager Jack Mcqualter-Whyte completed his ANZAC Day walk, to raise money and awareness for veterans.
The 15 year old walked from the Mulwala RSL Dawn Service to the Bundalong Tavern, in full military kit and was thrilled with the support he received along the way.
“It was really good. We ran down the main street at the start and got out on to the highway where we were a bit more cautious,” Jack said.

“We got plenty of toots, people pulled over and made donations so it was really good.” ....

A Teenager’s ANZAC Day Walk
A 15 year old will commemorate ANZAC Day by walking from the Mulwala RSL Dawn Service to the Bundalong Tavern, in full military kit, to raise money and awareness for veterans.
Jack Mcqualter-Whyte was inspired to play a part in supporting returned service men and women after learning about their struggles.
“I was looking at statistics behind our veterans who returned home from Afghanistan and other places suffering from PTSD, and thought it was pretty bad numbers and thought it would be a good thing to go out there and support them,” Jack told Kylie and Kev. ....

When 62 year old Wodonga resident Stephen sold his business, he never expected he’d still be looking for a job six months later.
While several industries and businesses claim they are desperate for workers, Stephen’s experience indicates he may be missing out, due to his age.
In desperation, he contacted the Neil Mitchell Program to explain his dilemma.
“I’m very fit, very healthy, I’ve run hotels, motels and nightclubs for the past 40 years, so I’m very skilled up, but I can’t get a look in as soon as they know my age,” he said. ....
