(WTOC) - Blaring train horns at late hours and traffic backups through mid-town Savannah all the way to President Street continue to be an ongoing challenge. To fix the issues, local, state and federal agencies have to come together, along with private industry. (WTOC) - Savannahâs 311 service recently launched an app for iPhone and Android that offers a number of resources, from checking on garbage schedules to paying utilities. A technology upgrade like this to make city services more accessible for folks on the go is something 4th District Alderman Nick Palumbo said last year he really wanted to see come to fruition. âA lot has changed in the 20 years since weâve had that 311 system. And we needed new technology and an app to connect with people where they are,â Alderman Palumbo said. ....
Savannah’s new slate of elected officials were all smiles at their inauguration ceremony on Jan. 2, 2020. Almost one year later, that same group couldn’t all get together for a Christmas card photo at Savannah City Hall. Hopes were high for what could be accomplished by this new group. The council had seven new members, five of whom defeated incumbents for their seats. The new council had managed a historic first with the election of seven African Americans, including five Black women. The group, along with the new mayor, was committed to progressive change in the city, voicing a people-centered agenda in contrast to the business-first approach of the previous council. ....
