NEW ALBANY â The annual Union County Master Gardener Plant Sale & Vignettes will be Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Union County Heritage Museum in New Albany. The sale offers plant lovers an opportunity to find unusual plants and learn about what other growers are cultivating. Other activities that are part of this yearâs plant sale include free demonstrations of Plant Propagation from 8 to 9 a.m., Driftwood with Succulents from 9 to 10 a.m.; Creating Fairy Gardens from 10 to 11 a.m.; and Decorating a Birdhouse from 11 a.m. to noon. These vignettes are free. Other opportunities during the day include soil sampling information and containers for gardeners to check for deficiencies in their garden soil, and, for a fee, sharpening of small garden tools. ....

Basil, mint or lemon balm, or houseplants, such as begonias, geraniums or violets, all can be easily rooted in water. Cut a piece with several inches of stem, place it in a jar of water, add about a teaspoon of potting soil and place the jar in a bright window. Instead of potting soil, I have also used the new growth from willow branches to start plants (willow bark contains natural rooting chemicals). To do this, prune the new growth off your willow (2 or 3 inches), snip it into small pieces, crush the pieces and add these to your water. Using a clear glass jar or vase for this is a good idea, so you can make sure your stem is developing roots. As soon as you see roots, you can place the stem into potting soil. ....

A Series Of Events In Stockbridge Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge, Massachusetts has been active in our community as the facility opened it s grounds at the junction of routes 102 and 183 to visitors as they strolled around the grounds to check out the flora with proper social distancing guidelines in effect. Visitors complied with wearing masks on site during the warm weather months.
