Clifton pupils help plant trees as part of a community project The children were given the chance to ask lots of questions about the environment and helped to dig, plant and water the trees. They will continue to look after the tree they planted as it grows over the next few years. CARE home residents featured on BBC One show Countryfile after signing up for the part of the Plant Britain campaign. White Lodge in Braydon is set in 10 acres of countryside and those living there have been planning how they want to develop their garden area. They have started the planting with a selection of fruit trees, plus some ornamental varieties in the main border. They have been adding colour around the garden with pots and hanging baskets. There will be a sensory garden with herbs and lavender plants, a rose memorial garden and raised beds to grow vegetables to be used in home-cooked meals. ....
TWO North Berwick groups marked National Tree Week by planting 900 trees on the southern edge of the town. North Berwick in Bloom and Sustaining North Berwick planted the native species, grown at Alba Trees in Gladsmuir and donated by the Woodland Trust, to provide a habitat for wildlife and increase biodiversity. More than 60 family groups helped plant the trees on land south of the Walker and Cala Homes developments at Mains Farm, where a country park is being created. They booked slots at 10-minute intervals to maintain social distancing. North Berwick Gardening & Turfcare Services prepared the area for planting, and will also continue to maintain the park. ....
NETTLESTONE and Seaview Community Partnership Tree Planting Project 2020 got underway last week when volunteers planted 85 tree ‘whips’ with more to follow over the coming days. Back in January, when lockdown was still the stuff of science fiction, the partnership applied for a Woodland Trust Community Tree Grant. Permissions and assents were given to plant in various areas throughout the parish, and in November the partnership received a ‘wildlife’ pack of 105 native saplings. Grown from seed sourced in UK and Ireland, the mix of Oak, Silver Birch, Rowan, Hazel, Blackthorn and Hawthorn will increase biodiversity, habitat and food sources for wildlife. ....
