Rampersaud Running For Riverview Mayor

After spending the past five years as a councillor-at-large in Riverview, Tammy Rampersaud is running for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections.
Her top priorities are sustainable growth, community engagement along with protection of citizens and the environment.
Rampersaud believes the town needs to do more advocating for better police service.
“Sometimes it’s just more patrolling and that serves as a deterrent but also a comfort to people. We need to see that here, there needs to be an increased presence for people for many reasons.”
In terms of housing, she thinks the town can advocate on behalf of citizens to ensure affordability and she supports rent caps given the recent spike in rents. ....

Funds from Mountain Valley Pipeline awarded for Carvins Cove land, other projects

The entire shoreline of the Carvins Cove Reservoir could soon be in public hands.
A $175,000 grant from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation will initiate talks with the owners of a 46-acre tract at the reservoirâs southern tip â the last remaining privately owned piece of waterfront property.
The grant was awarded to the Western Virginia Water Authority, which co-owns and manages the reservoir and a surrounding 12,700-acre natural reserve with the city of Roanoke.
âCarvins Cove is the primary source of drinking water for residents in the valley, and land conservation activities such as these protect water quality and expand low-impact recreational activities in the valley,â read a statement released Monday by authority spokeswoman Sarah Baumgardner. ....

Riverview Mayor Ann Seamans Not Re-Offering

The mayor of Riverview has decided not to re-offer again in the upcoming municipal election in May.
Ann Seamans says the pandemic has allowed everyone to reflect on their lives over the past year.
She plans to retire but will still make a contribution to the community in some way going forward.
Seamans has overseen tremendous growth in Riverview as mayor for 9 years and as a councillor for 14 years prior to that.
She fondly remembers her first big issue on town council.
“When we all lobbied to get together to promote the new Gunningsville Bridge. As you know, the old bridge was pretty rickety and it even stopped people from wanting to drive over to our town.” ....

Riverview's Bridgedale Boulevard Opens To Traffic

The new Bridgedale Boulevard in Riverview is now open to traffic.
Construction of the 1.6-kilometre roadway linking Runneymeade Road and Gunningsville Boulevard began in April.
Roundabouts are located at both ends of Bridgedale Boulevard.
“This an important project for the Town of Riverview in an effort to lighten traffic congestion that our community will experience during the planned closure of the causeway in May 2021,” says Riverview Mayor Ann Seamans.
In 2019, Riverview Town Council approved phase one of the Bridgedale Boulevard project, which included construction of the roadway as well as further development of Mill Creek Nature Park and continuing road infrastructure upgrades and renewals. ....
