Embezzling former councillor sold home where daughter s ashes scattered

Murdered daughter Her solicitor Euan Gosney asked for a postponement of a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which had been set for later this month because selling the last resting place of her tragic daughter’s cremated remains had shaken Duncan’s already-fragile mental state. He said he had concerns about Duncan’s health and her ability to provide instructions and give evidence if the hearing went ahead as planned. He said: “In 2014 her daughter was murdered. “That enough might have been the reason for her decreased mental health but there have been further difficulties – the property over which her daughter’s ashes were scattered required to be sold in terms of raising the funds for payment of the compensation order so there’s been a marked downturn in her mental health.”

Family thanks compassionate and professional Red Funnel staff

My sister and I have just returned from a visit to the Isle of Wight. This trip was arranged as both my mother and stepfather had passed away during lockdown and their wish was to be scattered in the sea on the way over to the Island as they had made many trips there and loved it. I contacted Red Funnel Ferries to see if this could be arranged and was met with helpfulness, compassion and professionalism. A date was organised and when this arrived, all arrangements fell into place and exceeded our hopes. From Nell Clare and the two crew members who met us and escorted us to the area where the ceremony was to take place, to Alice Duncan, the ship’s captain, all involved were empathetic, respectful and professional and went above and beyond expectations.

No matter how sick she was, she stayed positive and determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her we learned what resilience and perseverance truly look like. Vollie was born in Guntersville, Alabama in 1928, the seventh of 10 children to Thomas and Alice Duncan. She was the only one that would get up every day, by herself, determined not to miss a day of school. Mrs. Riskin met and married her husband Jerome while he was stationed in the service, and she was the colonel’s secretary in Selma, Alabama. They made their home in Hammond, Indiana. She worked for the Social Security Administration for the next 50 years as well as being a realtor for their own business, Riskin Realty. While there she was active in the League of Women Voters, Easter
