Congestion charges
1. In our main story today, CJ McKinney examines whether a congestion charge would work in Ireland.
London has had congestion charges for almost 20 years to discourage people from driving into the city centre.
The issue has been moving closer to home as last week, the Oireachtas budgetary oversight committee recommended that the Government examine the introduction of congestion charges to help pay for the cost of climate change.

2. Industry representatives have said the 11.30pm curfew for pubs and restaurants should be scrapped in September.
The Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) and other industry groups are set to meet with Government officials later today to discuss further easing of Covid-19 restrictions next months.

Globetrotting walrus spotted off coast of Kerry injured after he was hit by boat in France

A GLOBETROTTING walrus that was spotted off the coast of Kerry earlier this year has been injured after he was hit by a boat in France.
The giant Arctic walrus, nicknamed Wally, washed up on Valentia Island in March and was spotted by a father and daughter who were out for a Sunday walk.

Speaking to RTE after their find, dad Alan Houlihan said the walrus was “the size of a cow or a bull in the water.”

A walrus spotted on rocks in Ireland s County Kerry is likely to be an adolescent that left the Arctic in search of new breeding grounds and food, according to an expert.
The rare sighting was captured by a local man and his five-year-old daughter on Sunday.
On Monday, observers said there were no signs of the animal in the area.
While such sightings are unusual, an adult walrus was seen on the north and west coast of Scotland in 2018.
Tom Arnbom, a senior advisor to WWF on the Arctic and its marine life, told BBC News that the latest walrus looked relatively young. Often it is adolescent animals that venture on long trips to find new areas to breed, he explained.
