Investigators believe they’ve found the man responsible for killing a pair of young women near Breckenridge in 1982.
On Jan. 6, 1982, Barbara Jo Oberholtzer, 29, and Annette Kay Schnee, 21, went missing near Breckenridge. They were found dead in the area about six months apart, but their killer has remained a mystery for nearly 40 years.
During a press conference at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Lakewood on Wednesday, March 3, officials announced their belief that they have finally caught the perpetrator. Alan Lee Phillips, 70, of Dumont, was arrested Feb. 24 on two charges each of first-degree homicide, kidnapping and assault. Phillips is in custody at the Park County Jail. ....

Barbara Bobbie Jo Oberholtzer has remained in the hearts of her loved ones, ever since she was found murdered in Colorado in 1982.

PARK COUNTY, Colo. The man accused of murdering two women last seen hitchhiking near Breckenridge appeared in a Park County courtroom Friday where the judge ruled that investigative documents be made available to his defense team.
Alan Lee Phillips, 70, was arrested Feb. 24 on the following charges in two crimes committed on Jan. 6, 1982:
Kidnapping
Murder after deliberation
Phillips is accused in the 1982 killings of Annette Schnee, 21, and Barbara Oberholtzer, 29.
Schnee was last seen about 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 6, 1982, according to the cold case database from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Her body was found about six months later on July 3, 1982, in rural Park County, about 20 miles south of Breckenridge. ....

Suspect Arrested for 1982 Murders of Colorado Women
Thanks to new DNA technology, authorities have made an arrest in connection with the 1982 murders of two Colorado women.
According to Denver7, the case began 39 years ago, when Annette Schnee, 21, and Bobbi Jo Oberholtzer, 29, disappeared while hitchhiking in Breckenridge. Though the women did not know each other, they were both last seen on Jan. 6.
Family members found Oberholtzer s body in a snow drift the next day, while a young boy discovered Schnee s body in a creek later that year. Both had died from gunshot wounds.
Authorities launched vigorous investigations and even collected usable crime scene DNA in 1998 but despite their efforts, the case went cold. ....
