[email protected] One month in, the Warrior Run School District’s $37 million construction project, which includes an elementary school and stadium, “is moving along pretty well,” according to Dr. Alan Hack, district superintendent. Expectations are that it will meet the projected completion date. The stadium is scheduled to be completed by August 2022 and the school in November of that year. “Obviously they are currently doing quite a bit of earth moving work and that’s weather-dependent, but at this point they have not been delayed enough to extend the deadline,” he said. “There’s still a number of months that something could happen, but as of right now they are working very diligently according to the schedule that they have established.” ....
SUNBURY â The Northumberland County Commissioners on Thursday doled out more than $1.7 million in County Relief Block Grant (CRBG) funding through the federal CARES Act to municipalities, schools, businesses and nonprofit organizations. Commissioner Chair Sam Schiccatano said SEDA-COG accepted applications on behalf of the county from the entities applying for the funds. After SEDA-COG reviewed the applications to see if funding criteria was met, Schiccatano said the commissioners made the final decisions on how to award the funding. He noted that many municipalities received funding to replace radios and related equipment for police and fire personnel. This (pandemic) was a reason to improve communication, Schiccatano said. A lot of the radios that were replaced were old radios. ....

At Monday night s board of director s meeting, it was decided that students would learn remotely Jan. 4-6 before the hybrid model of learning re-starts that Thursday and Friday. The Warrior Run hybrid model has all students learning virtually on Mondays, followed by alternating in-person attendance for the rest of the week. Superintendent Alan Hack noted that the idea behind remote learning for Jan. 4-6 had to do with being cautious after a holiday â he made reference to the uptick in COVID positives in the area after Thanksgiving. ....

Turbotville, Pa. â Warrior Run School District has managed to keep COVID-19 case numbers down, thanks to mitigation efforts and a partnership with Geisinger Health System. Dr. Alan Hack, superintendent at Warrior Run School District, credits the low case numbers to their vigilance in mitigation efforts â masking, social distancing, hand washing, and contact tracing. The district, which has a total of 1,500 students, started the school year with students attending in-person five days per week. They switched to a hybrid model after Thanksgiving, when case numbers in the community started rising substantially. Eighty-five percent of the student body had been attending in-person when the school year began, according to Hack. ....
