A Dundee 'miracle' - 58 years since Bob Shankly's Dark Blues roared to the European Cup semi-final

On this day 58 years ago there were 40,000 spectators squeezed inside Dens Park as Bob Shankly’s Dundee booked their place in the European Cup semi-finals.
The opponents were an Anderlecht side who had already seen off the mighty Real Madrid but had been humbled at Heisel by a rampant Dark Blues.
Real had been in six of seven finals to that point, winning five, and still boasted the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas. Beating them had elevated the Belgians to the status of favourites for the entire competition.
However, goals from Alan Gilzean (2), Alan Cousin and Andy Penman saw the Anderlecht crowd applaud Dundee from the pitch in the first leg. ....

Obituary: Bobby Wishart, who helped Aberdeen and Dundee to their first league titles

BOBBY WISHART, who has died aged 87, was a leading Scottish footballer of the 1950s and early 1960s who achieved the remarkable feat of winning old First Division championships with two different clubs, neither being Rangers or Celtic.
In 1955 he was instrumental in Aberdeen’s first title success, while in 1962 he was a key member of the Dundee team that won its only top-tier league title. At Aberdeen he also claimed a League Cup winner’s medal in 1955 and a loser’s medal in the 1959 Scottish Cup Final.
League success at Dundee led to the European Cup the following season, during which the Dark Blues had an unforgettable campaign, reaching the semi-final, where they lost over two legs to the formidable AC Milan, with Bobby playing in every single match. ....

It is with great sadness that Dundee Football Club have learned of the passing of former player David Sneddon aged 84 on Christmas Eve.
Davie started his senior career with Dundee after being signed by Dundee manager George Anderson from Junior side Kilwinning Rangers in 1953. When Davie joined the Dark Blues a certain Billy Steel held his favoured inside-left position and so had to patiently wait to left until both Steel and Anderson left Dens Park to make his debut under Willie Thornton on March 19
th, 1955 in a 4-1 home win over Stirling Albion.
Davie made just one appearance again in the 1955/56 season and the following year scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 home win over Motherwell on April 8 ....
