Vanguard and BlackRock uncovered as largest investors in coal industry

The US mutual fund company Vanguard has been named the world’s largest institutional investor in the coal industry, with holdings of almost $86 bn, according to research carried out by Rainforest Action Network, Urgewald and 28 other NGO partners.
The investor is closely followed by BlackRock, which has invested over $84bn in the coal industry to date. Together, the two investments giants account for 17 per cent of all institutional investment in the coal industry. ....

As US re-enters Paris Agreement, it must do fair share of climate action


WASHINGTON The re-entry of the United States into the Paris Agreement takes effect today. Friends of the Earth International, along with Friends of the Earth U.S., Sahabat Alam Malaysia/Friends of the Earth Malaysia, and Friends of the Earth Europe, released the following statements in response:

Rejoining the Paris Agreement was the right move for the United States, but it was just the easy first step. President Biden must follow through on his commitment to do more by centering environmental justice in his approach to the climate crisis globally. This includes the United States doing its fair share to keep global temperature rise to 1.5°C and providing climate finance for developing countries in line with science, equity, and justice. ....

Friends of the Earth Federation on POTUS Biden's plan to rejoin Paris


WASHINGTON – President Joseph Biden is expected to take the United States back into the Paris Agreement on Day One of his presidency. Friends of Earth International, U.S., and Malaysia, as well as Third World Network, released the following statements in response:
Karen Orenstein, Climate and Energy Program Director at Friends of the Earth U.S., said:
“Rejoining the Paris Agreement was the easy part. The Biden Administration must now put together a carbon reduction plan premised on the United States doing its
fair share of the global effort to keep temperature rise to 1.5°C and provide climate finance for developing countries in line with what science, equity, and justice demand. President Biden must approach the climate crisis internationally with the same promise of environmental justice pledged at home.” ....
