ENTSOG takes on new challenges: interview

Summary
ENTSOG s role is changing with the commercial introduction of hydrogen into the European gas grid and with co-operation with its electricity counterpart.
by: William Powell
The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) has co-ordinated its members s activities and negotiated terms and assessed the need for public funding for possible infrastructure projects with the European Commission (EC).
The result is a competitive gas market with a transparent, regulated third-party access regime governed by a set of network codes covering congestion management, capacity allocation, tariff-setting and so on. This in turn has helped make the EU an ideal market for LNG: one that is deep, liquid and open to all participants. This also furthers the objective of the EU: security of supply.  ....

MEPs Ask EC to Review Approach that Limits Biomethane-Fueled Mobility – Advanced BioFuels USA

(NGV Journal/European Biogas Association) Members of European Parliament (MEPs) from different political groups have signed a petition asking the European Commission to remove barriers to the deployment of sustainable fuels and technologies in transport by reviewing the current tailpipe approach to measure CO2 emissions. This will ensure the swift decarbonisation of the transport sector. The development of clean mobility will be essential to reach climate-neutrality. The sector needs to reduce its emissions by 90% in 2050, while ensuring that the EU transport industry remains competitive and the transition to clean technologies leaves no one behind.
The EU needs cost-competitive fuels and technologies available right now to achieve this goal. Biomethane belongs to the most promising alternative fuels: it allows emissions reductions already in the short term and by 2030, and its production promotes the deployment of a circular bioeconomy. When well-to-wheel emissions are tak ....
