Trip on a Tankful: Warroad residents come together to create 2.5-mile ice path Like much of the world this past year, residents of Warroad, Minn., located only six miles from the Canadian border were feeling restless due to pandemic restrictions. Riverbend Skate Path (Jared Olafson FB) WARROAD, Minn. (KFGO) – People living in northwest Minnesota say it started with two men who thought it would be fun to connect their ice rinks on the Warroad River. Now, the so-called Riverbend Skate Path connects seven rinks and runs for two-and-a-half miles along the river. Jared Olafson says it’s not unusual for him to look out and see headlamps bobbing along the skate path at 10 p.m. The path is maintained by plow attached ATV’s and Polaris Industries in nearby Roseau donated a power broom. The people maintaining the path eventually hope to get a Zamboni so they can get a professional finish. ....
The Riverbend Skate Path is a new addition to the Warroad community: Thanks to the efforts of a few dedicated community members, this 2+ mile skating path is open to all! The skate path connects the various river rinks along its path and is flanked by a groomed cross-country ski path on one side and a snowmobile trail on the other. All along the path people have been having winter fun. Pulling sleds, practicing their puck handling, make-shift curling games, broomball, and just enjoying the great outdoors in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The path has been seeing anywhere from 300-400 skaters a day. Donated, unsold Christmas trees line the path, as well as various fire pits, lights, and fun. Doc s Harbor Inn serves as a public access point has rentals available if needed. ....
