Environmental activists are calling on a new tunnel under the River Thames to be scrapped despite construction already being underway on the £2billion project - dubbing it London Mayor Sadiq Khan s dirty little secret .
The Silvertown Tunnel in South East London is expected to open in 2025 having got the green light from the Government three years ago – but it has faced major criticism from local residents and green campaigners.
Transport for London first proposed the tunnel in 2005 to help ease the burden on the Blackwall Tunnel, through which up to 100,000 vehicles pass a day, and it was backed by Boris Johnson when he became mayor in 2008. ....

Eight of the presenters given a one-off show over the 2020 festive period at Radio 1 are returning to host a month of Early Friday Breakfast shows.
Dean McCullough, Rakeem Omar, Danni Diston, Sam MacGregor, Darcy Kelly, Alex West, Numi Gildert and Robyn Richford will host the programme over the coming months.
First up will be 28-year-old Dean McCullough, who will take on Friday Early Breakfast in April. Originally from Belfast and now based in Manchester, Dean started out volunteering at Wandsworth Radio in 2016 before landing a show on Gaydio, where he currently hosts the breakfast show. Dean hosted Radio 1 Anthems in December 2020 as part of the station’s guest presenter initiative. ....

'Powerjam' offers young musicians a chance | This Is Local London

A band project is motivating young songwriters to stay creative over lockdown.
Powerjam, based in Twickenham, is offering budding musicians a chance to debut an original song across popular streaming platforms, including Spotify.
Winners of the competition can professionally record and release a single, usually worth £1,000.
The not-for-profit supports teen and tween musicians by helping them to form or join bands.
Powerjam hosts workshops where groups can rehearse and gig regularly, songwrite, and professionally record, market, and release music.

The project was awarded a ‘Community Heroes Award’ in 2019 by Richmond Council.
Bands at Powerjam have achieved over 12,000 Spotify streams on recently released singles and over 50,000 collectively. ....
