Dog run planned in downtown Milwaukee; fundraising involves community


Downtown Milwaukee may soon see an influx of furry friends.
The Third Ward Business Improvement District and the Downtown BID have partnered to open a dog run, a smaller version of a dog park, under a section of I-794 across from the Riverwalk Commons.
Under current plans by Graef, a Milwaukee-based engineering consulting firm, the 12,000-square-foot park  about a third of an acre will be located at 103 W. Clybourn St. from Plankinton Avenue to the Milwaukee River. As a part of the project, the City of Milwaukee has agreed to extend the Riverwalk to the planned location.
Site renderings by Graef show a grassy dog run behind black fences that is divided into two sections, one of which is significantly bigger than the other. The image shows murals on the I-794 supports and a city alley converted into parking space, though the city has not agreed to convert the alley into parking space. The facility will feature synthetic turf with an irrigation system for cleaning, ....

With Resurgent Downtown, Covington Turns Focus Southward

Downtown Covington has seen a major resurgence over the past decade and is now a regional destination for diners, drinkers, and shoppers. The city s riverfront just opened Covington Plaza, a new stretch of the Riverfront Commons trail, an attraction for more passive recreation.
Now, as more downtown buildings undergo renovations and new businesses continue to open there, the city s economic development agenda is turning south of 12th Street/Martin Luther King Blvd, the traditional southern border of the central business district.
Other areas need to benefit from the energy going on in Covington, Economic Development Director Tom West said during a presentation Tuesday night before the city commission. ....
