RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that fully vaccinated people can quit wearing face masks in most situations, but Riverside County is first awaiting word from the state on updated guidelines before implementing any measures.
All California counties are in the same boat. We are awaiting state guidelines on masks in wake of the CDC recommendations, Riverside County spokesperson Brooke Federico confirmed Friday afternoon.

Thursday s new mask guidance from the CDC stated, Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s announcement about a full California reopening on June 15 didn’t scramble UC Riverside’s plans for fall 2021, but it threw in some hot sauce.
“It made us more progressive in our planning,” UCR Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox said. “If COVID-19 vaccinations continue to trend as they are, and if there isn’t a COVID-19 outbreak, campus will look more like ‘normal’ than we thought it would even a short time ago.”
I believe this is a third grade classroom and you ll see approximately 15 desks, he said.
Students from transitional kindergarten, or TK, to fifth grade are getting ready to return on a hybrid schedule starting in mid March. Students are going to be coming in an a.m., and on p.m. session there won t be the traditional recesses or lunches on campus but it is that first step, Kelley said.
There are so many changes. The school district posted informational videos on its website so parents and students get a better idea of what safety protocols they can expect before coming back to campus.

Some districts already have the greenlight to bring students back on campus, while others are awaiting approval.
San Bernardino County public health has given all elementary schools permission to reopen, if they have an approved safety plan, after the county s COVID-19 case rate dropped to the state s acceptable threshold.
Sacred Heart Academy, a private Catholic school in Redlands, was among those welcoming students back this week. Hoping and praying for it but we wanted it only when it was safe and we had all of the PPE and equipment that we need to ensure everyone s safety, said Sacred Heart Principal Angie Williams.
