Comfort Asare, Acting Director of the Department of Social Welfare at the Ministry Of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MOGCSP) has called on Ghanaians to report any officer who demands money in order to offer children or babies to the police or the ministry. According to her, the Department of Social Welfare does not sell children or babies but instead gives them out for adoption after following due processes. Families are the most institution in the lives of people and therefore we want to tell those who have applied to adopt our vulnerable children that we are grateful. Most streets in Accra are flooded with beggars comprising of energetic youth, aged, children and the physically challenged. The situation has become worrisome as the number of street beggars are increasing by the day. Per United Nations reports, over 4,000 children are living on the streets of Ghana. Lamenting about this growing issue, the Department of Social Welfare Director at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Comfort Asare, has sent a word of caution to beggars on the streets.
