SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - Salisbury-based Three Rivers Land Trust (TRLT) has announced the recent conservation of 266 acres in Randolph County, North Carolina. This new conservation property builds off an additional 255 acres that was also protected by the TRLT in 2019, to bring the total acres conserved to 521. This new conservation land adjoins the Uwharrie National Forest and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Game Lands. ....

SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) - Muddy Sneakers, a nonprofit that works with fifth-graders teaching hands-on science education in the outdoors, has moved its Piedmont office from downtown Salisbury to the Center for the Environment at Catawba College.
The 13-year-old organization has an office in the North Carolina mountains as well as in the Piedmont. Currently, the organization reaches 2,000 fifth graders in 39 public schools in 19 counties. In Rowan County, Muddy Sneakers has worked with Isenberg, Mt. Ulla, Overton, West Rowan Elementary, Hurley, China Grove, Granite Quarry, Knollwood, Koontz, Cleveland, and Hanford Dole schools. ....

$2.4M awarded for natural resource conservation of Maine wetlands

Eleven projects to restore, enhance or protect wetlands and other important natural resources around the state were selected to receive the latest round of funds from the Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program.
The projects include a dam removal project in Vassalboro, a tidal culvert upgrade in Cape Elizabeth, and conservation of high-value wetlands at sites ranging in size from 24 acres to nearly 500 acres. 
In all, $2,455,038 was awarded to restore or enhance almost 10 acres of wetlands and help conserve over 1,300 acres of wetlands and upland buffer.

Coming soon to 550 acres near you: Sanford Community Forest
SANFORD, Maine – If all goes according to plan, the city will one day have a forest to call its own.
Three Rivers Land Trust recently launched a fundraising campaign with the Mousam Way Land Trust and other organization to help create what will be known as the Sanford Community Forest, a sprawling 550-acre area that will be conserved and available for recreation.
Cheri Brunault, the executive director of Three Rivers, said throughout her career in land conservation she has repeatedly seen the benefits communities enjoy from having accessible green space.
“The ability of residents of Sanford to get out for an extended experience in nature will be greatly enhanced by the protection of this land, since it s only 3 miles from the city s center,” Brunault said. “If we are successful, then from 2022 onward, residents and visitors alike will have the ability to observe and appreciate our natural wor ....
