Man charged in March 14 shooting near 6th and Villa but denies firing shots


RACINE — A man who police say was drinking while celebrating his birthday allegedly fired several bullets at three men, hitting one in the leg and sending him to the hospital. But the man denies having fired the shots.
Mark A. Bell, 33, of the 1100 block of Chatham Street, has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

On March 14, a Racine Police Department officer responded to the Ascension All Saints Emergency Room for a report of a gunshot wound. A victim was being treated for a gunshot wound on his right upper thigh. The victim said he was standing at the corner of 6th and Villa streets when he heard 3-4 gunshots and felt a sting in his leg. ....

The re-opening stocks – those battered by the Covid pandemic – continued to make strong headway as the more confident New Zealand sharemarket posted its sixth successive day of rises.
The S&P/NZX 50 Index gained
96.79 points or 0.77 per cent to 12,689.05, after reaching an intraday low of 12,584.85. There were 83 gainers and 61 decliners with 50.4 million shares worth $200.76 million changing hands.
Matt Goodson, managing director of Salt Funds Management, said it was a day investors were willing to take risks and pay for re-opening stocks. Some of them are having strong runs. ....

Japanese Market Extending Gains Into Sixth Day
TOKYO (dpa-AFX) - The Japanese stock market is sharply higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei index breaching the 30,000 mark earlier, as investors continued to buy cyclical stocks on prospects of a stimulus-driven global economic recovery getting brighter. The cues from Wall Street overnight was also positive
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Index is advancing 187.04 points or 0.63 percent to 29,954.01, after touching a high of 30,026.40 earlier. Japanese shares closed slightly higher on Monday.
Market heavyweight SoftBank Group is gaining more than 2 percent and Uniqlo operator Fast Retailing is adding more than 1 percent. Among automakers, Honda is edging up 0.4 percent, while Toyota is losing almost 1 percent. ....
