Ryedale attractions set for spring re-opening


The North York Moors National Park Authority is welcoming visitors from March 29.
However, it is reminding everyone to act responsibly and with consideration for the wildlife and communities who live there.
“We ask everyone to act responsibly and stay safe,” said Tom Hind, chief executive of the North York Moors National Park Authority.
“Spring has now arrived, and lockdown is easing, but it is essential that our eagerness to return to more relaxed times does not lead to harm, either to other people or to the countryside.
“Please treat this very special place with the respect it deserves.”
Scampston Hall, near Malton, has announced that it will reopen its gardens and parkland to the public from March 31, for five days a week, from Wednesday to Sunday. ....

The Arboretum Cafe in Lincoln has provided over 2,500 free meals for children during lockdown, and that’s only the beginning.
Abbey Access Training, a charity based at the Arboretum Cafe on Monks Road, started making free school meals for disadvantaged children in Lincoln in January.
Since then, they have made over 400 meals a week, totalling more than 2,500 meals since the scheme began. ....

North Kesteven sets £5 council tax hike
COVID causing “volatility and uncertainty”
North Kesteven District Council have set their £4.95 annual council tax increase for 2021/22.
The financial plan, which includes a 2.92% increase in council tax, went before the authority’s Executive Board on Thursday.
This means residents in a Band D property would pay £174.60 annually, up from £169.65 the previous year – a £4.95 increase.
The Executive Board papers said: “The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting impacts have had a significant financial impact for the council during 2020/21.”
In the meeting, Russell Stone, Director of Resources said: “These are all issues that we face alongside an increasing reliance on on the local economy, which is creating a large amount of volatility and uncertainty in the council’s finances going forward.” ....

There are currently 18 alerts and one flood warning affecting Lincolnshire, as the adverse weather conditions caused mayhem in parts of the county.
The Met Office also issued a yellow warning for snow and ice until 10am on Friday, January 15. The early rain, sleet and snow across the East Midlands should ease and clear by Thursday evening.
Clouds will begin to thin in the east, leading to a risk of icy stretches, frost and fog later. The cold weather will continue on Friday and further warning for snow and ice will run between 3am and 9pm on Saturday, January 16. ....
