Lin-Manuel Miranda to Receive NAB Leadership Foundation Service to America Leadership Award


The Service to America Leadership Award recognizes individuals and organizations responsible for improving the lives of others through extraordinary public service. It is the Leadership Foundation s highest individual honor.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the critically acclaimed songwriter, actor and director, is the creator and original star of Broadway s Tony-winning Hamilton and In the Heights. His work has garnered a Pulitzer Prize, three Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, two Olivier Awards, and an Emmy Award, among others. Miranda is the recipient of the 2015 MacArthur Foundation Award, the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors and the 2019 Portrait of a Nation Prize.
The film version of, In the Heights, with Miranda serving as producer, songwriter and featured actor, will be released on June 10, 2021. He will make his film directorial debut with, Tick, Tick… Boom! which will be released by Netflix later in 2021. ....

Jacques d’Amboise, exuberant star of the New York City Ballet, dies at 86

Jacques d’Amboise, an exuberant star of the New York City Ballet for three decades and a favorite of its legendarily exacting choreographer George Balanchine before becoming a champion of arts education, died May 2 at his home in Manhattan. He was 86.
The cause was complications from a stroke, said his daughter, the actress Charlotte d’Amboise.
Balanchine was famously fixated on female dancers, turning to them as artistic muses and making them the centerpieces of his ballets. Mr. d’Amboise, a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet from 1953 to 1984, was an exception. ....

Writer Dinaw Mengestu named John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor in the Humanities


ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON Bard College announces the appointment of esteemed writer Dinaw Mengestu as Catherine T. MacArthur Professor in the Humanities, effective spring 2021. Mengestu, a recipient of the 2012 MacArthur Foundation Award, is director of the Written Arts Program at Bard. He is the author of three novels: The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears (2008), How to Read the Air (2010), and All Our Names (2014).
