Pianist Maxim Lando to return to Palace May 1


The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra (WSO) presents Maxim Returns, the season finale of its Front Row Season on Saturday, May 1, at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The digital concert will be live streamed and features Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, Cindy McTee’s Adagio and Efraín Amaya’s Angelica.
“We are thrilled to welcome back audience favorite Maxim Lando to perform one of the most poetic and romantic piano concertos to emerge in the era, Chopin’s E minor concerto. We particularly love Maxim’s innate musicianship and his facile virtuosity at the keyboard. He also brings a freshness and youthful enthusiasm to everything he plays, and in this early work of Chopin, these qualities will be on full display, said Daniel Meyer, artistic director. “We will pair this concerto with two works written by contemporary North American composers. AROUND ANASTASIA ISLAND: Going camping for 95th birthday celebration


Celebrating a 95th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic can become a major family dilemma.
Last year when Anastasia Island resident Dorothy Miller turned 94 on April 18, her family and friends staged a drive-through celebration around her neighborhood. But turning 95 is the real milestone.
“Let’s go camping,” one family member suggested, and that triggered a lot of conversations among family members with Dorothy making the decision to “hit the road” and head to the campgrounds at Georgia Veteran’s Memorial State Park.
Family members joining the camping celebration included her children, sons Brad, Randy, Danny and daughter Jody. Son David and his wife Peyton from Houston, Texas, joined them.  ....
