Audubon Center In Little Rock To Be Powered Entirely By Solar Array

Conservation organization National Audubon Society has become the first nonprofit in Arkansas to be powered by 100% solar energy with its 35-kilowatt solar array at the Little Rock Audubon Center, officials said. Meanwhile, OMCO Solar announced Tuesday a partnership with Little Rock-based renewable energy company Entegrity Energy Partners.
The National Audubon Society hosted a ceremony Tuesday for the new array that will meet all of the center’s electricity demand, according to a news release. The center at 4500 Springer Boulevard in Little Rock also will have a Solar Learning Lab that’s geared for kindergarten to 12th-grade students and nonprofit leaders. North Little Rock-based solar power developer Scenic Hill Solar built the plant. ....

Arkansas Utilities Call For People To Conserve Energy Or Face Planned Outages

Arkansas utility companies are asking people to conserve electricity usage as the state braces for another round of winter weather. Companies say heavy snowfall and unusually cold temperatures have prompted many consumers to use a substantial amount of natural gas and electricity to stay warm in their homes.
Melody Daniel, a spokeswoman for the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management, says lowering thermostats to within the 60 to 65 degree temperature range will help conserve power.
Heating sources are the biggest draw during these extended cold weather events, Daniel said. So, if you’re able to reduce that by about five degrees or so, and then bundle up, wear a few extra layers and maybe have a blanket with you, that is just one simple step that most Arkansans can take that will drastically reduce the load on the power grid and help our electricity stay on. ....

A report released Monday by an environmental group says three Arkansas utility companies are doing better than most companies nationwide, but still have room for improvement.
In The Dirty Truth About Climate Pledges report, the Sierra Club assigned letter grades to utilities in the U.S. based on action taken toward reducing carbon emissions. Criteria included efforts to retire coal plants, stop building natural gas plants, and the construction of new, clean energy facilities. ....
