The Alabama coach was more than 1,000 miles away, addressing the Texas High School Coaches Association s convention.
But when word got out that Saban had said sophomore Bryce Young was due to make ungodly numbers in NIL deals that were almost seven figures, it was like he pulled the rug out from underneath the coaches at the podium in Birmingham.

Former Ocean Springs wide receiver Austin Williams is representing Mississippi State at next week’s SEC Media Days.
The former Greyhound has played in 37 career games for the Bulldogs and is coming off his most productive campaign yet with 43 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns.
Williams will be a redshirt senior in 2021.
Williams will be joined by Head Coach Mike Leach and fellow teammate linebacker Aaron Brule.
As for Ole Miss, Head Coach Lane Kiffin doing the honors alongside quarterback Matt Corral and defensive back Jaylon Jones.
SEC Media Days run Monday through Thursday with the Rebels taking their turn at the mic on Tuesday and the Bulldogs on Wednesday.
