Current NNE president and CEO Aaron Julien will move into the role of chairman. He replaces longtime NNE chairman John Kuhns, who is retiring. Chuck Goodrich will assume Julien’s role. Meanwhile, Dan McClory is being promoted from chief financial officer to chief operating officer of NNE. Northampton’s City Council, on first reading, voted unanimously with one councilor, at-large councilor William Dwight, recusing himself to stand in solidarity with the paper’s unionized employees, and to pass a resolution calling for Newspapers of New England to swiftly bargain a fair contract with them. NNE is the Gazette’s parent company. “The key to effective government is an unbiased media. A newspaper is critical to that,” council President Gina-Louise Sciarra said. “Reporters need to know that their work is valued.”

Gazette announces new publisher By STEVE PFARRER NORTHAMPTON In the latest change for the Daily Hampshire Gazette, publisher Michael Moses is stepping down from the newspaper, and Shawn Palmer, who has a deep background in newspapers in Connecticut, has been named publisher of the Gazette, the Greenfield Recorder and Athol Daily News. Palmer, who most recently worked at The Day in New London, Connecticut as chief revenue officer and is a past president of the Connecticut Daily Newspapers Association, will start in his new position Monday. Aaron Julien, president and CEO of the Gazette’s parent company, Newspapers of New England (NNE), said he met Palmer when the new publisher worked at the Record-Journal in Meriden, Connecticut and was impressed with his work. Julien said he hoped the two might eventually work together.
