The true levels of violence against women NHS staff is not fully known
The true extent of violence against women working for Scotland’s NHS is unknown because of “inaccurate” recording by health boards, it has been revealed.
Only four of the country’s 14 boards were able or willing to provide data on the number of female members of staff attacked in the line of duty over the last three years.
Since 2018, there have been at least 28,730 assaults on NHS staff as they worked.
A number of health boards responded to the freedom of information request with incomplete information regarding the gender or sex of the person attacked, saying they did not routinely record that piece of data. ....

More than 250,000 measles vaccines will expire without being used

Tom Lee/Stuff
More than 250,000 doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine will expire before they are used.
The Government announced a $40 million year-long measles vaccination catch-up campaign past July, when it said roughly 300,000 young adults aged between 15 and 30 were not immune to measles, as their immunisation rate is too low to prevent an outbreak.
It followed the worst measles outbreak seen in two decades in March 2019, after a cluster of cases in Canterbury. More than 2000 people caught the disease, and nearly 800 were hospitalised.
A review of the response found issues with vaccine distribution and public messaging, and suggested action should have been taken “much earlier”. ....

Pharmacy closures risking patient care says NHS Lothian

PREMIUM
Lloyds pharmacy has apologised for sudden closures, which are said to be significantly affecting access to prescriptions in the Lothian area
PATIENTS are being put at risk by an “escalation” of short-notice pharmacy closures, a health board has warned.
Firms including Lloyds have blamed staff shortages for increased disruption to community services, which NHS Lothian said was “significantly impacting on patient care and access to medicines”.
Pharmacists  leaders claim companies are opting to reduce opening hours rather than negotiate agreed rates with locums to cover shifts.
Pharmacies are contracted by the NHS, and sector leaders say there is concern that some are breaching the terms of their agreement by failing to alert health boards in advance of closures. ....
