Evidence of sleep-dependent low-frequency (PLOS Biology by Xiao Liu and colleagues at The Pennsylvania State University. This neuronal activity was more strongly linked with cerebrospinal fluid flow in healthy controls than higher risk groups and patients, and the findings could serve as a potential imaging marker for clinicians in evaluating patients.
The development of Alzheimer s disease is believed to be driven by the buildup of the toxic proteins amyloid-β and tau in the brain. Chamber of Commerce awarded funds to support tourism
Kennebec Valley Tourism Council (KVTC) has awarded sponsorship support funds in the amount of $1,662.50 to Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce for the Taste of Waterville to assist in the growth of tourism in Maine’s Kennebec Valley and produce a positive economic impact on the region.
Mid-Maine Chamber was one of 12 sponsorship recipients awarded as part of the 2021 KVTC marketing partnership program. In total, the 2021 KVTC sponsorship support application requests reached nearly $29,100. The organization was unable to fully fund all regional sponsorship requests to its members this year. However, with the help of Brookfield Renewable U.S., KVTC was able to fund $19,351.50. KVTC is excited to award sponsorships to local organizations who are helping KVTC promote the Kennebec Valley region as a destination place with their own marketing initiatives. ....

Lahainaluna HOSA students qualify to compete in international event

Senior Abigail Akamine is leading the Lahainaluna High School Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Chapter this year.
LAHAINA Despite the challenges of preparing virtually and on their own, 18 Lahainaluna High School HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) competitors won medals in medical and leadership events at the 2021 Virtual State Leadership Conference on Feb. 26.
Health Services Pathway Instructor and HOSA Advisor Malia Shimomura explained, “The Lahainaluna HOSA students did not have it easy. Due to a bell schedule that prioritized a COVID-19 safety approach, students only saw their teachers in this case, the advisor for five weeks during the entire school year (seven-class, five-week block model). ....

Sloan Kettering Institute researchers named 2021 Kravis Women in Science Endeavor Fellowship Winners

NEW YORK CITY, March 10, 2021 Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) announced that Sloan Kettering Institute (SKI) researchers Regina Bou Puerto and Mijin Kim, PhD, have been named 2021 Marie-Josée Kravis Women in Science Endeavor (Kravis WiSE) fellowship grant recipients. The Kravis WiSE initiative, created in 2020, provides sustained funding for scientific trainees as well as mentoring and significant professional development for women pursuing careers in biomedical research at MSK. The Kravis WiSE Symposium is held every year during Women s History Month in March. This event hosts scientific leaders from MSK and other institutions. Ms. Bou Puerto and Dr. Kim will be recognized and present their work at the second annual Kravis WiSE Symposium held virtually Wednesday, March 17, at 3:00 PM ET. ....
