LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - In recognizing the one-year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic, CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana is hosting events to mark the significance of the last year and the ongoing battle against COVID-19.
Friday, the health system recognized the 121 lives lost to the virus at their hospitals, in addition to its team members who have continued to place themselves in harm’s way fighting the virus in our community. ....

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) -After hearing from some residents, it seems to be just one thing after another. From rolling blackouts, yesterday to now a depleted water supply for nearly 6,000 residents in Calcasieu Parish.
Water access is a major problem for Lake Area residents following this brutal winter storm.
Lake Charles city officials said the city’s 6 water plants are producing double what its winter output usually is around this time of year. In all, they’re outputting 18 million gallons a day. ....

· CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana is cancelling all outpatient and elective services – including surgeries and diagnostic procedures scheduled for Feb. 15 and 16, at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital and CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital. Affected patients will be contacted for a reschedule date. Anyone with questions can call, 337.431.7887.
- Ochsner CHRSTUS Health Centers in Lake Charles will also close on Monday Feb. 15 and 16. This includes all clinics on the Lake Area and St. Patrick campuses, as well as Tybee Lane, Moss Bluff and Grand Lake. Ochsner Health Center – Lake Charles Urology is also closed. New COVID-19 Antibody Treatment Available At SWLA Hospitals
A new emergency treatment for COVID0-19 is now available at local hospitals for patients who aren t sick enough to be hospitalized.
Bamlanivimab, known as BAM for short, helps block COVID-19 cells from attacking the patient. It mimics the immune system to help fight off the virus in patients who test positive for coronavirus.
Timothy Haman, M.D., Vice President of Medical Affairs, CHRISTUS Ochsner Health Southwestern Louisiana told KPLC that BAM could be a life saving treatment for people that are susceptible to severe illness.
There is some controversy surrounding BAM as it was given emergency approval from the FDA and it hasn t been fully tested.  Doctors are transparent that they don t know a lot about the drug or the potential risks that it could pose to patients, although local doctors say they re seeing positive early results. ....
