Johannesburg - The Special Investigative Unit has warned former Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku that its investigations into the irregular awarding of personal protective equipment (PPE) tenders would continue.
The unit reacted on Sunday to comments made by Masuku on Saturday after he said the “SIU had effectively propped me as the proverbial poster boy of Covid-19 related corruption.“
Masuku was reacting to the decision by the ANC national disciplinary committee to overturn the Gauteng ANC’s decision to suspend his membership in the provincial executive committee. ....

Johannesburg - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has lashed out at the former Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masukuâs claims that the law enforcement agency has dubbed him the poster boy of corruption.
Masuku made the claims on Saturday, after the ANC national disciplinary committee (NDC) overturned the Gauteng ANCâs decision to suspend his membership in the provincial executive committee (PEC).
He was suspended, along with presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko, hauled before the ANC provincial disciplinary committee, following reports of their alleged involvement in tender fraud related to the acquisition of personal protective equipment (PPE) by the Gauteng Health Department. ....

The High Court in Pretoria handed down its judgment on Monday on the review application to set aside the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) on the so-called findings and recommendations against the executive authority – myself as the erstwhile MEC for Health in Gauteng – on what I could have and ought to have done to attend to allegations of personal protective equipment corruption or even prevent alleged corruption.
From the outset, it is important to note that I have always considered any allegation of corruption or criminality to be a serious matter of national importance because corruption robs our people of a better life for all, for which many have sacrificed their lives. To this end, I consider myself an ally of those who stand opposed to corruption. Pretoria â The Gauteng Department of Health has stated it has no intention of challenging the damning report into circumstances surrounding the death of Shonisani Lethole at Tembisa Hospital.
The department revealed that on Thursday, a day after Health Ombudsman Professor Malegapuru Makgoba released the report.
Gauteng health spokesperson Kwara Kekana said the department, and by extension its facilities which includes Tembisa Hospital, remains committed to implementing the recommendations of the report within the prescripts of the law.
This would be after they had concluded studying the report and its findings, Kekana said. ....
