Special Olympics Georgia to Host 2021 State Horse Show This Month

Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) will be hosting the 2021 State Horse Show later this month in Alpharetta.
Special Olympics Georgia is thrilled to host the 2021 State Horse Show on Friday, May 28th – Saturday, May 29th at Wills Park Equestrian Center located in beautiful Alpharetta, Georgia. SOGA is so excited to welcome back all athletes, coaches, sponsors, and volunteers as we safely transition back into competition. Although last year was challenging for our community, SOGA could not be more enthusiastic to get back into action with 60 athletes and unified partners, 30 coaches and horse handlers and 200 volunteers throughout the weekend. The SOGA team is taking extra precautions to ensure a safe and socially distanced event for all participants including a closed event to the public and all outside spectators. ....

Special Olympics Vermont and UVM support 'The Triple Combine Fitness Challenge'

Vermont Business Magazine Special Olympics Vermont (SOVT) has partnered with the University of Vermont’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program to create a mutually impactful health program involving SOVT athletes and UVM DPT students. The Triple Combine Fitness Challenge is a 10-week at-home fitness competition for Special Olympics athletes across the state of Vermont. As part of SOVT’s Healthy Athletes initiative, athletes were given the option to work with a UVM DPT student throughout the challenge via Zoom.
Over 100 athletes are participating in the Triple Combine Fitness Challenge, and 40 are paired with UVM DPT students. The partnership allows Special Olympics athletes to stay active and compete, while receiving virtual health assessments from physical therapy students. UVM students in turn practice telemedicine skills and gain an increased understanding of people with intellectual disabilities. ....
