Borderlands has wrapped production. Ahead of its release next year, actor Edgar Ramirez tells of the game series why they should be excited about what’s to come.
Speaking to IGN in an interview, Ramirez who plays Atlas in the upcoming

Borderlands as production continues in Hungary. Gina Gershon (
Face/Off) and Cheyenne Jackson (
American Horror Story) have officially joined the star-studded ensemble cast of
Borderlands, portraying the respective roles of Mad Moxxi and Jakobs. In the video games, Moxxi is a non-playable character that owns a number of bars in Pandora, while Jakobs is a weapons manufacturer.

Based on the bestselling PC and console gaming franchise from developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K Games, the movie will center around a group called Vault Hunters led by Lilith and Roland. Lionsgate recently released the film’s official synopsis, centering around unlikely heroes recruited for a retrieval mission. Character details including Cate Blanchett’s Lilith and Kevin Hart’s Roland are also teased in the synopsis.

Borderlands Film Will Exist in Different Universe Than Game
The
Borderlands film recently announced Edgar Ramirez in a leading role as we learn more about the film as the shoot begins. Randy Pitchford, executive producer of the
Borderlands video game franchise and founder of Gearbox Entertainment Company, took to Twitter to clarify the film’s relationship to the universe.
Pitchford stated that
“The Borderlands Cinematic Universe is not identical to the Borderlands Videogame Universe. We are authentic to characters, tone and style, but allow for independent storylines. The mediums are not the same, so the content should not be bound to the same rules. ”
