Rockhampton’s Evie Williams was just nine weeks old when she was fitted with her first pair of “hot pink” hearing aids.
For Rockhampton parents Renee and Jacob, finding out their daughter had been born with hearing loss six years ago was a complete shock.
Mrs Williams said her daughter’s diagnosis came after her newborn screen at the hospital.
“It was a huge surprise as no one in our families had ever had hearing loss,” she said.
“We didn’t know what we were meant to do, and it was pretty scary particularly as we were first-time parents.” ....

The City of Surrey’s Community Safety department launched the Empower Surrey website this month as part of the Surrey Anti-Gang Family Empowerment program which aims to address the rise of gang life and violence in the community.
It was created together with local youth who gave firsthand information about the current challenges they face. The website caters to parents, caregivers, and trusted adults to increase their awareness and give support to affected individuals and families. ....

Editor’s note: This is the second in a series of articles regarding the 2020 annual report from the Meigs County Health Department.
POMEROY Among the services available at the Meigs County Health Department are several which fall under the public health nursing program.
These services include Project DAWN, immunizations, tobacco cessation, communicable disease reporting and other programs and health checks.
Leanne Cunningham is the Director of Nursing at the Meigs County Health Department, with nurse and certified tobacco treatment specialist Sherry Hayman and public health nurse Terri Hoschar, who joined the team in October. Regional Epidemiologist Mikie Strite also works with the Meigs County Health Department. ....
