NCRC holds consultation on KP legislative reforms

Islamabad : Speakers suggested strengthening coordination between the National Commission on the Rights of Child and major stakeholders including policymakers to work effectively on child related legislations for the promotion and protection of children in the country.
The recommendation came forward at a one-day consultation on Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Legislative Reforms on KP Child Protection and Welfare (Amendment) Bill, 2020 with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Legislators.
The consultation was organised by the National Commission on the Rights of Child on Wednesday. Thousands of women across the country defied the coronavirus pandemic and took part in annual marches and rallies to mark International Women’s Day, calling for social justice, equal rights and end to what they called “pandemic of patriarchy” in a deeply conservative society.
International Women’s Day is observed globally on March 8. This year, however, it remained a muted affair due to the pandemic-induced restrictions on large gatherings. In Pakistan, women came out in large numbers in major urban centres to take part in ‘Aurat Azadi March’ which has become a synonym for women’s struggle for their rights in the country. ....

PESHAWAR: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) swept the Senate elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by winning 10 of the 12 seats of the Upper House of Parliament on Wednesday.
The PTI clinched five general seats, two of technocrats and women each and one of minorities from the province, while the opposition Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) and Awami National Party (ANP) claimed one general seat each.
However, the government’s ally, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), failed to secure any Senate seat. ....
