Southside COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic in the Armstrong Center

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at Armstrong Center on May 14


Armstrong students can receive the Moderna vaccine on Friday, May 14 without an appointment at the Armstrong Center. SouthCoast Health and other community partners will host the Southside COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic. 
The Moderna vaccine is approved under emergency use authorization (EUA) for individuals 18 years and older. Currently, all residents of Georgia over the age of 16 can get vaccinated.
Students who receive their first dose of the vaccine at that clinic will have their appointment for the second dose scheduled on-site. Individuals who receive their first dose on May 14 will need their second dose by Jun. 11 at the earliest.

Last Chance to Get Vaccinated Before Summer


Armstrong students can receive the Moderna COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 4 and Thursday, May 6 at the Armstrong Center. SouthCoast Health and other community partners will host the Southside COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic. 
Unlike other vaccine clinics this semester, vaccines will only be available on a walk-in basis. Students will not be able to make an appointment ahead of time. 
However, students who receive their first vaccine at the clinic will be able to make an appointment for their second dose while on site. Students receiving their first dose of the vaccine on May 4 and May 6 will be due to receive their second dose on Jun. 1 and Jun. 3 respectively. ....

Tallahassee churches celebrate Heart Month with Virtual Leadership Institute


Local churches from Gadsden and Leon counties celebrated Heart Month recently via a Virtual Leadership Institute. In total, 45 churches are involved in Health for Hearts United, an initiative implemented in conjunction with FSU and other universities.  
At the event, Shady Grove #1 Primitive Baptist Church in Tallahassee was recognized for completing a three-phase program that provides entry into the initiative. Once the program is completed, churches work on sustaining health programming to reduce cardiovascular risk along with other diseases in their congregations.  
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the United States, except for COVID-19,  cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among Americans. However, among certain populations such as African-Americans there are higher rates compared to other groups. ....
