Mayor Cr Despi O’Connor joins Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel
The Victorian Government has appointed Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Despi O’Connor to the 2021 Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel.
The panel is established by the Minister for Local Government to provide feedback on legislative, regulatory, strategic and policy concerns that impact the local government sector.
The panel is chaired by the Minister and comprises 15 mayors, chosen to represent a mix of metropolitan, interface, regional, small and large councils.
The members of the 2021 Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel are:

Serious assault charge, Berserker

Detectives have charged a man after an incident in Berserker overnight.
Police were called to an Armstrong Street address just after 9pm in response to reports of a disturbance.
It is alleged the man pushed a 63-year-old Berserker woman, who fell and suffered serious head injuries.
She was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.
The 42-year-old Berserker man has been charged with serious assault of a person over 60 (domestic violence).
He is due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today (March 17).
The man and woman are known to each other.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact police. ....

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) A special election to fill a western Pennsylvania state House seat that is vacant because of a lawmaker s retirement will be held on May 18, the day of the state primary.
The speaker s office said Wednesday that voters in Armstrong, Butler and Indiana counties will choose a new state representative in the district that had been represented until Tuesday by Republican Rep. Jeff Pyle. Pyle cited a series of health problems in announcing his immediate retirement.
The special election for the seat held by Rep. Mike Reese, R-Westmoreland, had previously also been scheduled for the May 18 primary day. Reese died in early January of an apparent brain aneurysm about a month after publicly disclosing he had been diagnosed with COVID-19. ....

The City of Ballarat is keen to hear peoples’ experience of outdoor dining hubs in the CBD, established in support of local restaurants and cafes impacted by the pandemic restrictions.
Operating in Armstrong Street, Sturt Street and McKenzie Lane, the dining hubs provide weather protection and a great vantage point for enjoying the street life of Ballarat, particularly during major events such as the Begonia Festival.
These temporary outdoor dining spaces are scheduled to be removed after Easter, but Council wants to hear from its community first to determine whether the community enjoyed them, and if they would like to see a similar set up again. ....
