Investors in the energy sector are scratching their heads trying to make sense of conflicting messaging this week from government, agencies and business on the transition to low-carbon fuel sources.
Government intervention and a lack of coherent policy settings top the list of concerns.
In a week when up to $3 billion of taxpayer funds were earmarked for extending the lives of ageing oil refineries and a new gas-fired power generator, there was also the International Energy Agency’s call for the world to halt investment in new fossil fuel supplies in order to have an “even chance” of meeting the Paris climate goals.

Fusion Fuel Green, a green hydrogen technology company, has reached an agreement with Ampol to develop a green hydrogen production plant in Queensland, Australia.
The project includes the installation of a demonstrator plant for the production of green hydrogen, using Fusion Fuel’s proprietary HEVO-SOLAR technology, at Ampol’s Lytton refinery site in Brisbane. It is expected that the plant will be commissioned and operational within the next 12 months, with both companies having the possibility to enter a 50/50 joint venture to pursue other green hydrogen opportunities in the region.
