Baptist Health begins coronavirus vaccines in Montgomery


What does getting the COVID-19 vaccine feel like? 
Two nurses and a doctor were the first to find out in Montgomery on Wednesday, as Baptist Health began administering the first of its 3,900 doses to frontline workers. 
Jared Knighting, Amy Bohannon and Dr. David Thrasher shared their experiences with the Montgomery Advertiser amid a historic week in Alabama, as nearly 41,000 doses are beginning to inoculate health care workers around the state. 
The COVID-19 threat is nowhere near over  in fact, Alabama is currently experiencing its worst surge yet  but all three said the vaccine is a hopeful development in bringing the life-altering pandemic to a close.  ....

First Pfizer Vaccine Doses Administered in Montgomery

Just one day after Baptist South saw its highest COVID-19 hospitalizations, the first three Pfizer vaccines were administered in Montgomery.
Three healthcare employees (Pulmonologist Dr. David Thrasher, Lab team member, Amy Bohannon, and RN/emergency department Jared Knighting,) met the requirements for the vaccine. All were included in Phase 1A, were eligible and were interested in taking the vaccine.
All said they signed up and were given the vaccine Wednesday morning. They described the process as “easy” and like a “regular flu shot.”
The healthcare employees say they encourage all, who can, to take the vaccine. “Don’t be hesitant,” said Bohannon, “it’s been through a lot of clinical trials, we have the data showing that the vaccine is safe and is effective.” ....

First COVID-19 vaccines administered at Baptist South in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were administered to Baptist Health providers Wednesday morning.
Pulmonologist Dr. David Thrasher, registered nurse Jared Knighting and lab team member Amy Bohannon were the first three to receive the vaccine at Baptist South Medical Center.
Thrasher sounded the alarm early in the pandemic and warned Montgomery residents to take the virus seriously.
Thrasher’s team is the only pulmonology group in the Montgomery area and has seen the most critical COVID-19 cases since March. He expects this vaccine to help them stay well and continue to treat those who are suffering. ....
