Leaf Blowers Banned in Multiple New Jersey Towns


Never in a million years would I expect such a thing to be banned, but here we are. Gas powered leaf blowers have officially been banned in some New Jersey towns. You might like this new law, you may not. Either way, your neighborhood might be a little less noisy the next few months.
So what is the reason? Well a lot of people who are working from home have complained that it disrupts their work flow. Whether that means the leaf blowers create loud background noise on zoom calls, or interrupts deep concentration, either way enough people have complained for the state to take action. ....

When the COVID-19 pandemic made indoor dining impossible in 2020, outdoor dining became crucial to keeping the food and dining industry alive. As restaurants looked to expand al fresco, towns and cities around New Jersey found a way to get them more space: blocking off streets to create pedestrian walkways.
The result was one of the few silver linings of the pandemic. Downtowns took on block party vibes. Streets once filled with cars were now lined with tables and customers. Floundering restaurants were given a much-needed life raft. ....

Summit NJ bans summertime use of gas-powered leaf blowers


Under the ordinance, first-time violators will receive a warning and information about the ban. Fines starting at $100 and going up to $500 will be imposed for those found to be repeat offenders. Summit police or the city s Department of Community Services will enforce the ban.
The mayor can temporarily suspend the ban to clean up debris in the event of a hurricane, tropical storm or other emergency. 
At the council s April 20 meeting there will be a vote on a proposed amendment to the
newly amended noise ordinance creating a hardship exemption application for residents and business owners.
Under the city s existing noise ordinance powered equipment used for yard work can t start before 8 a.m. and must end between 6 and 8 p.m. depending on the day of the week and whether it s commercial, public or golf course property. ....
