A report by a U.S. Civil Rights Commission advisory group outlined many ways in which the Biden administration as well as state and county leaders could help overcome the disparities.

Federal agencies should actively reach out to Pacific Islander communities who have been disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic in Hawaii and elsewhere, according to the Hawaii advisory group to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.
The group recently released a report that explores how and why Pacific Islanders caught COVID-19 at a rate four times greater than any other racial or ethnic group in Hawaii and concluded that President Joe Biden’s administration and Hawaii’s political leaders could do a lot more to help address the disparities. ....

UH Mānoa team helps vaccinate elderly Filipino residents | University of Hawaiʻi System News

On March 6, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa faculty, staff and students actively involved in the local Filipino community helped to conduct full health assessments and vaccinate the elderly 75 and older and those 65 to 74 years old with pre-existing conditions. In partnership with the Filipino Community Center (
FilCom), Kalihi-Palama Health Center and multiple Filipino community organizations, the event was held at Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Kalihi. It was the first of several COVID-19 vaccination clinics that will be taking place at various churches across Oʻahu in an effort to provide outreach to those who cannot access vaccination websites to make an appointment. ....
