KARACHI:
The Sindh government has told the Sindh High Court (SHC) that it is making preparations to shift Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh – a man earlier convicted and sentenced to death for kidnapping and murdering US journalist Daniel Pearl – to a rest house in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order.
During hearing of contempt of court petitions filed against the Sindh government for not complying with the SHC’s December 24 order to release the Pearl case accused, Sindh’s assistant advocate general told the SHC that Sheikh would be moved to the rest house in a couple of days. ....

ISLAMABAD: The federal government Monday submitted before the Supreme Court (SC) that the release of accused in the murder case of US journalist Daniel Pearl would have global implications and requested for suspending the Sindh High Court (SHC) order of Dec 24.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard the appeal, filed by the Sindh government, challenging the order passed by the Sindh High Court on Dec 24, 2020 regarding release of all four accused including Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, detained by the provincial government,
Attorney General Khalid Javed, without mentioning the name of Omar Sheikh, the main accused in the murder case of US journalist, submitted before the court that the instant case would have global implications and there would be serious consequences if the accused were released. He requested the court to suspend the SHC decision. ....

(JTA) A court in Pakistan on Thursday ordered the immediate release of four men who had been jailed there since 2002 for the murder of the Jewish-American journalist Daniel Pearl.
The Sindh High Court in Karachi ordered the release of the men, who had been acquitted of the murder, calling their detainment “illegal,” the Dawn newspaper reported.
They had been involved in Pearl’s kidnapping, the court found, but not in his murder. The court did not identify the killers in the acquittal.
