Ali Treacher is a care worker, Unite the Union activist and workplace rep, and Secretary of the Care and Support Workers Organise! network (CaSWO!) She is also a supporter of Anti-Capitalist Resistance. She spoke to us about care workers fight.
CaSWO! has been meeting throughout the last year, since the start of the pandemic, after a Unison-organised call which brought together care workers around issues like workplace health and safety and PPE. The initial focus was basically offering each other solidarity and advice and sharing information. Government guidelines were so vague that we had to have a lot of conversations about what our employers were doing and what to push for. ....

Highlights
The Biden Administration on May 28, 2021, released its fiscal year (FY) 2022 budget. The $6 trillion budget, the largest since World War II, focuses on rebuilding the nation s aged infrastructure, augmenting the social safety net and combatting income inequality. The theme is to grow the U.S. economy from the bottom up and middle out, and not from the top down.
To fund some of these expenditures, the Biden Administration proposes to increase taxes on the wealthy and corporations and to enhance Internal Revenue Service (IRS) compliance, information and enforcement initiatives, projected to raise $3.6 trillion in revenues over a decade.

Seven more companies in corporate tech giants’ supply chains have been linked to the Chinese state’s forced labour schemes conscripting Uyghurs. Solidarity has reported on previous revelations about these schemes. This month, an investigation by tech journalists and human rights groups identified yet more businesses that received thousands of workers, manufacturing and assembling components for dozens of international brands. These include Apple, Amazon, IBM, Dell, Samsung, and Elon Musk’s Tesla. Beijing claims that these are voluntary “poverty alleviation” programmes for the Uyghurs, Kazakhs.
