Park Elementary Project Raises $1,600 for Homeless Teens

The money was given to the Unaccompanied Students Initiative, which provides aid to the young homeless population of Laramie and Natrona County.
The idea for the project came from teachers Julie Pierantoni and Chris Beamer, who are currently working on a professional development program called the Marzano High Reliability program.
Pierantoni and Beamer, through the Marzano program, teamed up with the school community to create “Humans Helping Humans.
Pierantoni said:
“Throughout the pandemic, students expressed concerns for homeless students in the community. We wanted to empower our students to turn their concerns into action. Humans helping Humans was a fun way we could support the USI home in our community.” ....

Wyoming First Lady's Hunger Initiative Honored for Student Help


CHEYENNE (AP) A program led by Wyoming first lady Jennie Gordon has been recognized for helping to feed homeless high school age students.
Gordon s Wyoming Hunger Initiative helped get food to the Unaccompanied Students Initiative to share with homeless youngsters.
Tamara Howard with the homeless students group says the connection with Food Bank of the Rockies starting about six months ago gave the students a wider variety of food than just recipes featuring ramen noodles.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the group Compassionate Cheyenne has presented the Hunger Initiative with its 20th Compassion-in-Action Award.
Gordon says community partnerships help to solve problems. ....

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Unaccompanied Students Initiative is a nonprofit that started its operations in Cheyenne and expanded to Casper earlier this year. USI not only helps put a roof over the heads of 16-20 year old’s, it focuses on teaching them skills they’ll be able to use the rest of their lives.
USI has the ability to house 10-15 kids in need at a time, its Cheyenne program coordinator, Michelle Coronado, said most of the kids that come to them are already in high school. She said USI focuses on three main topics: helping the students graduate, being a guide for what they want their future to look like and building character. ....
