HOUSTON (AP) - A facility in Houston that housed girls who crossed U.S. border unaccompanied is being closed and the girls immediately moved, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Saturday.
About 450 girls housed since April 1 in an Emergency Intake Site for Unaccompanied Children operated by the National Association of Christian Churches near Bush Intercontinental Airport were being moved.
“The NACC Houston EIS and other Emergency Intake Sites are intended for use as a temporary measure,” HHS said in a statement. ....

Unaccompanied Migrant Children Arrive at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Site

About 100 unaccompanied migrant children arrived at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Emergency Intake Site on Saturday, the first group to be sheltered at the facility.
The site, which was announced in March, is part of an effort from the Biden administration to move migrant children out of U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities.

The site will provide shelter for 13 to 17-year-old boys and can hold up to 372 beds, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families. ....

The White House was forced to issue an explanation on Friday following strong backlash to President Joe Biden s emergency presidential declaration leaving in place a Trump-era refugee admissions cap of just 15,000, despite promising months earlier to raise it to 62,500 for the rest of the fiscal year.

Immigrant Girls Being Removed From Houston Facility


  HOUSTON (AP) The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it is removing immigrant girls from a facility in Houston. HHS said that about 450 girls are being removed from the Emergency Intake Site for Unaccompanied Children operated by the National Association of Christian Churches where were housed since April 1. The agency says the site was intended as a temporary location and the girls will be paired with a sponsor or connected with the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The director of an immigrant advocacy group says there was an unknown incident at the facility Friday. Houston police and HHS spokespersons did not immediately respond to requests for comment. ....
