“Anyone who suggests quick-fix solutions to resolve the crisis in the industry, particularly in relation to planning and building regulation, has not yet fully grasped the gravity of the situation”
Faced with an apartment block proposed in his own neighbourhood, President George Vella called for a review of planning policies.

Six NGOs have urged Msida residents and other concerned citizens to endorse their calls for a controversial flyover project in the town to be sent back to the drawing board.
The NGOs have written to Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg, Planning Minister Aaron Farrugia and Msida local council and asked them to reconsider Msida Creek plans, which they say will not solve the area’s long-term problems and instead destroy a community.
First announced in 2019, the Msida Creek roadworks project proposes to eliminate Msida Circus junctions and replace them with flyovers, allowing traffic to flow uninterrupted but also adding massive concrete infrastructure in the heart of the town. ....

The steamroller strategy of Malta's roads agency

Infrastructure Malta has built more than roads but also a reputation for having a dubious relationship with the rules.
Jessica Arena looks at the evidence.
When Infrastructure Malta swooped down recently on a quiet residential road in Żebbuġ and started to widen it, the action raised the ire of residents, as well as environmentalists, who held that  the works breached all road policies.
This reaction was hardly a first for the government agency that oversees construction projects.
Since its founding in the summer of 2018, IM has prided itself on getting things done. But the way it steamrolls ahead with some of its projects has drawn heavy criticism, particularly on environmental grounds. ....
