City agencies celebrate million dollar grant for new home construction
Jackson Mayor Scott Conger made a simple but meaningful statement during a press conference this past week.
“It’s always a good day when Jackson, Tennessee is awarded a million dollars,” the mayor said at the announcement of a coalition of agencies working together to receive a $1 million grant to build six houses in the city.
The Southwest Tennessee Community Development Corporation, Jackson Energy Authority, Healthy Communities LLC and the Community Redevelopment Agency all worked together to receive the grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency.
Brian James of HCB Development was the one credited with coordinating the effort with the agencies. It started with he and Chris Alexander discussing a partnership with the Southwest Community Development Corporation and director Patti Pickler. ....

School leaders discuss delivery of electronic devices for students

JACKSON, Tenn. School leaders met Wednesday to discuss updates on the delivery of electronic devices for students.
The district ordered about 7,600 Chromebooks. To date, the district has sent out 4,700 of the devices to students and schools.
The district has also received a shipment of Lenovo tablets that primarily went to ninth grade students.
“I am just excited about our new leader in technology and the team and the way that we are going and the progress that we are making in this district,” said Andre Darnell, School Board Member for District 6 Position 2.
School leaders say they will make the determination when the rest of the devices will be given to students in the future. ....
