10th anniversary of 'Athens Burning,' film about Georgia Theatre fire


In 2009, two college students who didn t know one another began work on separate documentary films about the Georgia Theatre, their favorite place to see live music in Athens. With the help of a local attorney and the venue owner, they agreed to tackle the project together before the whole thing went up in flames literally.
Athens Burning, a 2-hour documentary film released in 2011, was originally created as part of a collective effort from the Athens community to rebuild the theatre after a fire that broke out the morning of June 19, 2009 destroyed the property. A decade later, the film stands as a love letter to the downtown music scene and a definitive chronicle of the historic building. ....

A total of 16 students from Fayette’s public high schools have been selected to attend the 2021 Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) this summer on the campus of Berry College. Half of the students are from the 2020 GHP cohort. Since the program was not held last year due to the pandemic, students who are still grade eligible (sophomores and juniors) were invited to join the 2021 cohort.

Care home speculation addressed by director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire as Newark and Sherwood sees rise in coronavirus cases

Outbreaks in care homes are not responsible for the rise in coronavirus cases in Newark and Sherwood, says a public health expert.
The district has seen a rise of 300 new coronavirus cases in the last seven days, which equates to 245.1 cases per 100,000.
Newark and Sherwood sits above the country-wide average of 131.8 per 100,00 and above the county-wide average of 217.5 per 100,000.
