Winston-Salem: Boys & Girls Club threatened by bus vandalism

Campers at Winston-Salem s Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club summer camp may not get to go on field trips this summer.Officials with the Salvation Army said repeated vandalism to the club s buses is threatening the opportunity to take children on field trips around Winston-Salem. Four buses in the fleet have had their catalytic converters stolen in recent months. One s catalytic converter was stolen twice, according to the Salvation Army. We understand catalytic converters are popular targets for thieves these days and we are insured, but we have to have our buses available if we are going to be able to offer field trips for our summer camp members this year, said Major Andrew Wiley, area commander of The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem.In addition to the buses, the catalytic converter was also stolen from a club minivan, and the club s gate posts were torn out of the ground during one of ....
