Australian Greens
The Greens want a Canberra that is truly inclusive, a place where everyone can live, work, play, thrive and reach their full potential.
A motion put forward by Greens MLA Andrew Braddock, and endorsed by the Legislative Assembly today, will see Canberra’s multicultural communities better supported to participate in public life, while maintaining connections to culture.
The motion has committed the ACT Government to:

Building strong electoral democracy in ACT

Australian Greens
The party’s key recommendations include:
Banning, or defining spaces for, roadside election signage,
Appointing an independent fact-checker for the 2024 election,
Capping electoral donations or gifts at $10,000 per financial year for all individuals, corporations or associated entities, and
Creating a path to lower the voting age to 16 or 17.
The recommendations are focused on improving transparency, equity and efficiency in ACT elections, by strengthening processes around participation, and taking a voter-first approach.
ACT Greens spokesperson for Democracy, Andrew Braddock MLA, says implementing these recommendations would make our local democracy stronger, no matter who you vote for.
“The recommendations we’ve put forward would make future elections more accessible, and ensure they are conducted in the best interests of voters, rather than donors, candidates or parties,” Mr Braddock said. ....

Greens debutantes share humour and passion

Political writer
MICHAEL MOORE discovers two new Greens members who bring passion, mirth and drive to the Legislative Assembly.
A SENSE of humour brings a breath of fresh air to politics. In continuing my series on inaugural speeches of the newest members of the ACT Legislative Assembly, I discovered two Greens members who bring passion, mirth and drive to the chamber.
Michael Moore.
Andrew Braddock (Yerrabi) began his speech parrying his colleague, Johnathan Davis (Brindabella), suggesting his colleague “may be wrong, misguided or delusional”. The debate was over whether or not Tuggeranong is better than Gungahlin. He did concede: “I respect and love him for his passion.” ....

THE Greens are pushing for a motion on the ACT Legislative Assembly floor to vote the banks out of Canberra public schools.
The deadline set down for Wednesday (February 10) calls on Labor to join the Greens to end programs run by the major banks and other financial institutions which alleges that their purpose is not motivated by educating children on saving money.
