Dozens of people missing after arrest by armed men

Armed men dressed in plain clothes have continued raiding homes and businesses, arresting several people.
Those arrested are kept in unknown locations on suspicion of planning to cause insurrection after the forthcoming January 14 General Election.
One case is that of Mr Justin Juuko, a former international boxer, who was arrested with Mr Garypo Mayanja.

Government bans New Year fireworks

Summary
Ugandans have been used to welcoming the New Year by gathering in trading centres and lighting fire or displaying fireworks. Some Christians spend the night in prayers.

The government has suspended all New Year night celebrations, including display of fireworks, prayers and converging in trading centres.
The Information minister, Ms Judith Nabakooba, said police have been directed not to grant any company permission to display fireworks, saying it would lead to gatherings of people and escalate the spread of coronavirus. ....

Journalists targeted again in Masaka shooting incident

Security forces yesterday targeted three journalists covering presidential campaigns with teargas and rubber bullets, leaving them with injuries at Kyabakuza in Masaka District.
The injured journalists are Mr Ali Mivule of NTV, Mr Ashraf Kasirye (Ghetto TV) and Mr Daniel Lutaaya (NBS TV).
Mr Mivule said the day started well with National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, attending prayers at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at Kitovu early in the morning. ....
